The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing replay systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.
Players will gain the right to question particular calls from the chair umpire, mirroring the system currently in use at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system will be operational on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move comes just a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the 147-year role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to re-examine specific situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Possible hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
A recent example took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
